“Elphie, I’m not lonely.”
Oh, what a wonderful little lie Elphaba’s friend has cooked up for herself. “There’s nothing wrong with it,” she reassures Glinda.
“I have you,” Glinda says.
“You can have all the people in the world and still be lonely,” Elphaba says.
It’s a strange lesson for her to have learned, after yearning her whole life to be looked at just once, just for a moment, just to be seen—but she is realizing it now, in the popularity that Glinda dwells eternally in.
This murky, awful popularity where being real and vulnerable is a disgusting thing, where you have to constantly flatter others, and even your upset must be performed properly.
Glinda repeats, a bit more firmly, “I have you .”
Elphaba squeezes Glinda’s knee.

Summary
Schlatt returns from twenty years in limbo to a world where not even one full year has passed since his death. The world has changed drastically in the months since his presidential reign and he's found himself stuck in a deal he can't remember making, forced to work with the newly-budding country of Las Nevadas. As he grapples with mistakes he can't take back, a constant strange pull in his chest, and the few people he wishes to talk to avoiding him completely, he is reminded constantly of one truth:

It's small. Seeing it like this, it's barely half the size of Las Nevadas on the map.
"Manberg was small," He murmurs.
Quackity has come to a stop next to him, watching the map just the same. "Yeah," He says simply. "It was."
Schlatt remembers how huge it felt back then. How everything- The presidency, the power that came with it, it felt like everything . Manberg felt huge, like the only thing that mattered, and his ownership of it meant everything. Seeing it like this puts a lot of perspective in place, and for a moment Schlatt feels like he's back in limbo, forced to realize how petty and pointless every battle over Manberg was.
"It's crazy-" He doesn't know why he starts talking, voice quiet. "That used to be shit we fought over all the time."
He sees Quackity look at him in the corner of his vision, but he stays staring at the map.
"We fought over that tiny scrap of land like it was the entire damn world," He laughs slightly, weak, because it's so ridiculous to him now. "But all of this other shit was out there the entire time."

The boy sputters, “Well, yeah,” he started, a blush rushing to his cheeks, “but—but why?” He finished lamely, unsure how to properly ask what he wanted to know. It was endearing as it always was, because in every timeline he was saddled with a consistently flustered feel to him.
“Because everyone deserves help when they need it,” was the simple answer he gave.
(Something much easier for a child to understand compared to ‘In every timeline we are intertwined. I find you, save your life, watch you grow, and hope you can save people from my destruction.’)
