Summary
James' placid boredom is souring quickly into resentment. He feels restless. He also feels inclined to have a bit of a pout. He gets up, leaving his phone on the desk, and heads down the corridor for a consolatory cup of tea. He wonders if there’s any of that hot chocolate mix left, the posh stuff with chilli in; he deserves a posh hot chocolate right about now. And maybe by the time he gets back some miracle will have transpired—Henrietta will have decided that Dundy is, in fact, a little too related to her for her liking, and she’ll un-invite him from Christmas, and James’ phone will blow up with Dundy’s pleas for him to take him back. Or maybe, somehow, the universe will magically manifest someone whom James can take to Rose Hill instead—but who else? What other sad sack could possibly not already have plans for Christmas?
