This is a small section from a larger work I have been working on for more then a decade more for myself as a form of free flow therapy. I don't know if I want to share the larger piece that this is from as I'm always tweaking it and adding as things come to mind, but I'm exceptionally proud of this part and felt moved to share it in the hopes that others who struggle with anxiety or panic will find comfort.

Joe slips his ring back over his finger and examines the tattoo, the dark ink bold and thick and striking next to the silvery glow from the wedding band. He tilts his hand to observe it from all angles, and Joe thinks he can't really imagine a better way to so succinctly represent Patrick in tattoo form.
Or: Joe and Patrick are newly married, and Joe comes up with the perfect tattoo idea to pay tribute to their nuptials.

Summary
The second Patrick let his full weight fall against Pete, the world went quiet. Cars stopped honking, people stopped yelling, even the air conditioning in the hotel room stopped whirring in the background. Everything was quiet, quiet and still in a way he knew he’d have to feel again.
But that was the future, and future Pete could do this as many times as Patrick would let him. It was up to present Pete to make sure Patrick would want to do this again, which circled back to the problem of his lung capacity.

It felt weird to be anxious about what this younger him might think about his life now. A whole new level of self-conscious that his therapist would have a field day unpacking, if she didn't have him committed the second he mentioned time travel.
“So,” He drew the word out, tapping a rhythm on his legs. “Is the future everything you thought it’d be?”
It was a stupid question to ask, because Pete already knew how he’d thought his life would turn out at that age.
“I guess,” The kid half-shrugged. “I didn’t get Ghost-of-Christmas-Future-ed, so that’s a plus.”
Pete still managed to be underwhelmed. He was talented like that.
