At 16 your soulmates initials burn into your body somewhere. It's painful, sure. But only for a couple moments. Then the pain only starts up again when you're near your soulmate, but as soon as you acknowledge each other you're in the clear. Most people don't talk about their soulmate marks to other people other than who they suspect their soulmate to be to have it confirmed or denied, a few people do decide to scream it from the rooftops despite the societal taboo. Good for them.
But Max doesn't have time for any of that, he's busy. He has a career to build and excel at. Yes, Max knows who his soulmate is. Yes, Max's soulmate knows who he is. No, they're not going to talk about it. They're busy. They have careers to build and excel at. It's for the best, really.
