    Summary

What looks like a straight path to Alhaitham is to Kaveh a dreadful rotation.

Kaveh is trapped in an enclosed space with a strange creature who seems to know all the same words as him, yet with whom he cannot communicate. He has placed his life in the hands of this being and now sits in a frantic stillness, attempting to rationalize ex-post a decision that he is already committed to seeing through.

He reaches out in an attempt to break the silence. His hand is promptly smacked away from its destination.

“I don’t feel like listening to anything right now,” Alhaitham says.

Weakly, Kaveh replies, “It’s not normal to drive for so long in complete silence.”

“It’s not silent to me,” Alhaitham says. “I’m thinking.”

    Summary

It's a meet cute between a young writer and a barista.

The barista’s lips curl into a charmingly insincere smile as he hands Isagi a drink in a paper takeaway cup. “Next time you want to drink flavored syrup,” he says, “try going to Starbucks instead. This is an establishment for enjoying the flavor of actual coffee, in case you didn’t know.”

Or it's a second chance for a love story that didn't work out the first time.

    YOICHI

Well, you’re the one who broke up with me, and I don’t have lingering bad feelings over it, so… I guess the problem is with you?

    KAISER

I could easily take that as a passive-aggressive comment on why our relationship ended.

Or it's a fight to take back control of the narrative.

    Summary

Yi Sang wakes up and it’s today again. The day before, his wings were clipped at the ends, but it doesn’t hurt anymore.

He stares up at the ceiling for a few moments before removing his body from the bed he has been assigned and clothing it in the outfit he has been given. Routine is a comfortable thing to engage in when today comes. He must first become proper. Then he works until he is told to stop. Finally, today ends and he is given the pills. Of course, the details in between these three steps vary, but the outline remains ever the same.

After he has completed the routine, he is returned to the room he has been told is his. In his mind, Yi Sang doubts that such ownership is possible, but he keeps these reservations to himself. Regardless of the matter of possession, it is true that he is permitted an amount of solace in the room.

Lately he has been hiding some of the pills. It is not part of the routine to swallow them, only to be given them. He has a secret jar and the number of pills within it is essentially without meaning. Nevertheless, he occasionally counts the pills before he deposits his body upon the bed he has been assigned. Today it is 27, so he falls asleep thinking about cubic numbers.

    Summary

The difference between a labyrinth and a maze is that a labyrinth has one path but a maze has many.

Alhaitham is lying in front of him, breathing shallowly. Kaveh cannot tell if he is asleep or unconscious, but it probably doesn’t matter. He is lying in their bed or he is sinking into a pond filled with lotuses or he is on display like a statue on a bed of marble or he is trapped in the roots of Irminsul – or he is in all of these places at once because this is in Kaveh’s mind, and his head is bursting with the ways that Alhaitham could be lying before him.

Kaveh touches Alhaitham, not with his hands but with his eyes. He takes in the shape of Alhaitham’s body piece by piece, from the tips of his fingers up the slope of his arm towards the curve of his face. “Vision happens in the brain, not in the eyes,” he remembers Alhaitham telling him at some point in the past. It feels like the words are echoing around him, whispers layering over each other.

The wire that attaches to Alhaitham’s earpiece is pulsating; something fluorescent is flowing out of it. Kaveh is strangely convinced that Alhaitham’s mind is coming out of his head and that substance is full of temptation.

    Summary

In Fraldarius, there is a local supersition that one should cut their hair after experiencing an ending, whether literal or metaphorical.

When House Fraldarius receives news that Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd has been executed in Fhirdiad, Felix believes it not. While his father immediately begins making preparations to go to the capital in person and demand to see the crown prince’s body with his own two eyes, Felix instead justifies his certainty to himself as such: it is the Blue Sea Moon, a month that should only have the purest of blessings to give to the crown prince of Faerghus. When Felix had been younger, he had thought that the month was named after the sea north of the capital, not the star in the sky – and that the color of its water as seen from the city during sunny spring days is the same as Dimitri’s eyes. So how could Dimitri possibly die during the Blue Sea Moon?

Felix knows that it is a senseless thought.
