“Why are you helping?” The rasped words are almost too quiet to hear.
Roy pauses, considering the boy before him. Ed is in obvious pain, white as a sheet and trembling, exhausted to the bone. He’d probably dissociated all day in that musty library without even realizing it. Probably convinced himself he was working.
From what Roy had seen, half of Ed’s notes were just mindless words, barely strung into coherent, inky sentences.

Lighting wove through the clouds in a dangerous tapestry of raw energy, the echoing thunder gaining weight in its threats. The clouds, now black in their intensity, promised a violent melody.
Carol meets Valkyrie’s dark gaze, and she sees that same intensity.
