Camilla doesn’t consider herself strong in that moment. She only feels used: a tool in her mother’s arsenal, as potent as a vial of poison or as sharp as a concealed dagger. She wishes she was naive enough to think of this cruelty as love—to imagine that she’s loved in any form. But if she were, she would have died long ago.
If there’s anything the Nohrian Court has taught her, it’s that love makes you weak. To love is to bring your own downfall.

Sylvain sighs. “Isn’t it obvious?” He leans forward to whisper in her ear. “I’m a reaper.”
