Summary
“We cannot let anyone see us die. We cannot let them see us heal. We must get out of this city, away from them. If they catch you, they will kill you. If they see what you are…it will go as badly for you as it would for me. Neither of us is safe with them, you understand? You need me to help you get past them, away from this place. I need you to help me out there, in the desert, until we reach a port. Do you understand? We are the same. We must get out.”
He stopped; he was not sure how to make himself any clearer, and the Saracen was not evidently interested in conveying anything other than his loathing. Nicolò waited, and after a long, uncomfortable moment, the Saracen finally responded. He spat an incomprehensible sentence in Arabic, heavy with disdain, and thrust his bound hands forward. A demand to be released? That would make sense. Nicolò hesitated.
“Do you understand me?” he pressed, repeating his gestures. “We are the same. We go together? Away from here? Both of us?”
The Saracen repeated also; his Arabic phrase, and the twisting of his wrists against their bindings. Nicolò nodded, and crouched before him.“I am going to free you,” he said. “Please help me.”

Olde Guard Hall sits at the base of a wooded mountain, overlooking another and standing vigil over the pass between. It rises tall and serene in solemn grey each day as it has for hundreds of years already, a sturdy wall and iron gate protecting the grounds surrounding the main keep.

In which Lord Nicolo is content with his lot in life, and the arrival of a handsome knight changes everything.

Summary
In the same sweep of a movement, Magnus’ body was pressed up against the lockers and his hand pinned beside his head. Alec’s two fingers rested inside the open palm, while the rest had a loose grip around the wrist.
It would be easy for Magnus to wiggle away from the pressure of Alec’s body, but the sudden pounding of his heart had him momentarily startled.
“Who was it, Magnus?” Alec repeated. His eyes were darting between that golden, confused gaze and the red-purple outline of a delicate pair of lips on the side of Magnus' neck.
“Izzy,” Magnus hurried to say. “I only sleep with Izzy, I swear.”
---
OR: Everything is perfect on paper. Magnus is working his dream job as a police officer, dating the lovely Isabelle Lightwood, and he’s pleased with things - until he suddenly finds his body reacting in strange ways to his tall, dark-haired, arrogant coworker, who also happens to be his not-quite-girlfriend’s stupidly gorgeous brother. Some kind of sexual desire is awakened inside of him and he has no idea how to navigate all of these new, strangely arousing feelings. -

Summary
When he next looks up, Alec finds himself standing in front of a bar front that he's never noticed before, tucked into an out-of-the-way alley - Pandemonium, with half of the letters flashing and burnt out so occasionally only the "demon" part of the name is lit up. He stares up at it, considering for a moment before giving a mental shrug. Fuck it. Might as well get plastered. Tomorrow's already going to be terrible; a hangover certainly couldn't make it any worse.
When Alec Lightwood stumbles into Pandemonium, his only goal is getting screamingly day-drunk to erase the memory of a horrendous work day, at least until the next morning. He certainly doesn't anticipate the gorgeous man with the handcuffs.
