A presence (a hand??) felt out his left thigh and Childe immediately reacted by slapping his leg to stop it. But nothing was there. Childe tried to brush it off as a muscle spasm or a twitch, but it continued its trip upwards until it dipped into the gap between his thighs. Childe yelped, and his date turned with a frustrated glare.
“What’s wrong?” She whispered harshly.
“N-nothing, baby, th-thought I saw a cockroach,” he whispered back, fighting down the tremble in his voice as the invisible hand continued groping the meat of his thigh.

The consultant gestures towards the bustling fish market, which is only a short walk away. Ajax can already smell the marine aroma in the air, nearly losing focus on the matter at hand.
“You…thought about me?”
The question comes out more tender than he intended, but Zhongli simply chuckles, nodding his head.
"Of course, Childe. We are friends by now, are we not?"

The man who takes a seat across from him is attractive in a roguish, somewhat aristocratic way, and suddenly Zhongli wishes he were in one of those speed dating things Xianyun always tries to persuade him into attending, and not merely idling around for a simple game of chess in the park.
“You free? I have some time to kill before my friend arrives,” the man says as he swipes errantly at his phone screen.
Zhongli blinks, regaining his senses. “Certainly,” he replies, already starting to rearrange the pieces on his board into starting positions, clearing away the game scenario he had been pondering. “Then may I assume that you already know the rules of the game?”

He’d noticed it at the beginning of their lunch date, when Zhongli had reached up to brush something off of Childe’s shoulder and adjusted his scarf a little more loosely around his neck. His fingers had brushed the skin of Childe’s neck, and that had almost been too much, but then Childe had caught a flash of thin, delicate veins in his peripheral vision when Zhongli had stretched his hand to brush some of Childe’s hair out of his face, and that had been too much.

Not a tear jerker, but definitely fills the angst/dread role fantastically. A nice length, full-bodied story with most of my favorite tropes (MCD, angst, reincarnation, fated destiny, tragedy, living too long). A lovely read.
