He hides too, but up on the stage. His voice, the loudest in the room, he keeps in the background. Everyone moves around him, talking and dancing, and as his words reach their ears maybe they turn, for a second, and maybe they listen. It"s not for long, and not long enough to really see him. But they hear it, and they feel it, however brief.
Amelia hears him. She’s been listening as long as he’s been singing. His song thumps, thumps, and she mistakes it for her heart. He beats away, verse after verse, until his guitar’s stopped singing and he’s all done hiding, for now.
