Derek dropped his gaze away from the passing crowd, back to Stiles, and found the younger man’s gaze was trained on his lips.
“Are they sharp?” Stiles asked.
Derek bared his teeth. “I could rip your throat out with them,” he responded with a light snarl which choked off in his throat when Stiles moved his wandering hands towards said fangs, pressing pointer fingers against them.
He hummed. “Very solid,” Stiles added, after a beat, thumb brushing Derek’s lower lip. -

ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD EVACUATED IN BEACON HILLS, CALIF DUE TO SUPERNATURAL THREAT
He recalled that as the first headline that made national news. It was only the first. As things continued to happen, the story took on a life of its own. Derek assumed only the people of Beacon Hills knew the truth of what was happening, but the world gossiped as they watched the town in a bubble slowly shrink.
Gossip, like how the home used to be full of happiness and a normal family, but when the beast arrived, cloaked in shadow, one night, all of that light was snuffed out. Children and teenagers who feared nothing crept into the abandoned house on a dare and emerged the next morning mute, blind, and bleeding, a red ring around their necks.
The house the beast had taken over, causing the mass-evacuation of families out of the once-peaceful neighborhood, was Laura’s target. She wanted to investigate. She had told Derek that after a good night’s rest, they would go together in the morning.
Derek knew, because Laura was his sister and Alpha, that she would not keep her promise. -

Derek... had no idea what to say. Or how to react. Or what to even feel.
What the hell was going on?
He immediately went to YouTube to check his video, and the first thing he noticed was that his subscriber count had indeed changed, just as he’d suspected.
Except not in the direction he’d anticipated.
When he’d gone to bed, he’d still been a few thousand subscribers away from one million. Something like seventeen or eighteen thousand away.
He was now staring at his subscriber count sitting at over one million by a fair margin.
“What the fuck?” he whispered to himself, and went to look at his newest video about AllAboutMischief. It was sitting at three-hundred thousand views in the first hour, and had more comments than he’d ever gotten on any of his videos since he began uploading.
“What the fuck?” he whispered again, a little more desperately.

Stiles felt like his heart was breaking. He wanted this—he wanted this to be real, without the threat of Gerard looming outside. “I’m sorry for that,” he uttered, reaching a trembling hand up to pull Derek’s hand away from him. “I can’t let that be—you’re the King, first and foremost. And I have nothing worthy of a king.”

He’d stalked over to the other side of the cave, still eying Derek warily and growling, then settled protectively over a mass of clothes, leaves and animal innards. The first time Derek sees Stiles, he’s sitting cross-legged next to a kiddie pool filled with floating plastic fish just outside the door of his classroom, clapping his hands along with the rest of the kids around him as a boy in blue reaches out with a net to scoop one up. There’s a sandbox on the other side of the door that kids are pawing through, nudging each other as they dig up magnetic letters, and through the door Derek can see the rest of the students sprawled across the room reading books.
