Tommy was fairly certain bedrock was unbreakable, and even if it wasn"t, there definitely wouldn"t be a vast, unending void underneath that is actually a portal to a perfect world.
Grian was fairly certain things were only supposed to go in the Boatem Hole, not come out, and even if something did, it would be diamonds or a reward for their sacrifices or something that wasn"t a random teenage boy.
To be fair, neither of them had put too much thought into it before. Maybe that excuses the reaction they had when their expectations were exceeded.

Summary
On top of the pillar, Tommy chooses life and leaps for the water, ready to leave exile behind. At that same moment, the server backs up as he falls, suspending him between life and death and the ensuing glitch pushes him from one server to another.
The Hermits have built a little family on their server, bonded through past trauma and instincts. So when a traumatized and scarred teenager crashes in, they’re happy to step up and be the family he needs.

After like, three years of being stuck in training, Tommy"s finally allowed on the field as official superhero, Red Lightning. It"s going great until just a few weeks in, when Tubbo goes missing, which- isn"t too great. And, at the same time, There"s a new trio of vigilantes causing trouble for the heroes, including one that seems prettty attatched to Tommy when he"s out-of costume. At least there"s this cool diner Puffy"s introduced him to, but the staff seems oddly attatched to him. ...Which is clearly because of his overwhelming amounts of natural charm, and no other reason, of course.

(aka basically a sort of role reversal of the usual Vigilante!Tommy AU where instead Tommy is a hero and the rest of the SBI are vigilantes. Chaos enseues. Also people are going missing, but that"s not important.)(...right?)
