Summary
Grantaire lies his head on Combeferre’s shoulder. He hugs Courfeyrac so hard that he picks him up. He reaches up and brushes Jehan’s hair out of their face. Slings an arm around Cosette’s shoulders, lies on the couch with his head in Bahorel’s lap, falls asleep with his face tucked into Joly’s neck. He lets Bossuet play with his hair and Éponine sits in his lap to do his eyeliner. Grantaire is always, always touching someone; his arm is looped through Musichetta’s, his chin is resting on top of Marius’ head.
He does not touch Enjolras.

Summary
It is a Tuesday, late afternoon, and Enjolras’ top three local coffeeshops are all closed. Two per their regular schedule; one, he observes with rising alarm and trepidation, for a baby shower.
“Well,” says Grantaire, who happens to be there, because he always is. “If an angel was born when that baby first laughed, I think your glare just killed him.”Bookmarked by pyrestes

Summary
"Courfeyrac hesitated to hug Enjolras. It lasted a second only, but Courfeyrac paused before Enjolras raised his arms, and it felt so wrong that Grantaire couldn’t help but look at his other friends to make sure he hadn’t imagined it. Nobody had seemed to notice - or, at least, nobody seemed surprised. "
(In which Enjolras is an alchemist losing his way, everybody is unbalanced and scared by it, and nothing is more powerful than friendship in the end.)

'"Seeing as y'all are so frickin enamoured I'm gonna be kissing a lot of hands tonight," Grantaire murmured, and they laughed. And then under normal circumstances, they would have stopped laughing.
Because the bottle had landed on Enjolras.'Or: When a drinking game results in a rather personal research project.

Summary
Courfeyrac leaned against a shelf that creaked ominously, and he hastily straightened. “Well, it’s not Christmas,” he reasoned.
“Not Grantaire’s birthday, either,” Combeferre added.
“And no judgment, Enj, but it’s a little late for Valentine’s Day.”
Enjolras ground his teeth together, glaring a garish painting of a sad clown as if it had personally offended him. “It’s an apology gift,” he said sourly, staring determinedly away from Courfeyrac and Combeferre so that he didn’t have to see the look they inevitably gave each other.
He was already familiar with it.

Summary
“I think in a week or so,” Enjolras muses, sifting through the final pages of his book, “I’m going to propose.”
From his lean against a tree out in the field on this uncommonly pleasant afternoon, one field among many of Grantaire’s acres and estates throughout rural France, Grantaire is oddly silent.
“Next week?” He finally says, deep. “Enjolras. The woman hates you. I know your grasp on the fairer sex is limited, but she said it outright.”Bookmarked by pyrestes

Summary
There's a sudden tension at one end of the table: an indrawn breath, an electromagnet switched on. Courfeyrac glances towards the head of the table, and Grantaire--her peripheral vision blinkered by her hood--is treated to a truly exciting display of alarm from him. Courfeyrac opens his mouth, about to cut off--
"If you need a date for the night…"
And he's too late. Grantaire turns, and catches Enjolras's gaze full in the face.
--
(In which Grantaire's having a Week, but it could be so, so much worse. It could be last year.)

“How long?”
Combeferre shrugged, but Courfeyrac, half-draped over Ferre’s lap, scrunched his face up thoughtfully.
“An hour?” he guessed, nudging his head against Combeferre’s hand like a cat. “Perhaps longer.”
Enjolras was already half out of his seat. “Has anyone thought to check if he’s still conscious?”
“It’s Grantaire,” said Joly from Enjolras’ other side, where he sat curled around Musichetta, “and it’s New Year’s. What did you expect?”
(It has been three years since Enjolras last attended the New Year's Eve party at the Musain, and he doesn't know what's brought him here tonight, but he does know one thing: someone is missing from the festivities.)

Enjolras’ lips are parted, amazed that Grantaire could be drawing him now, when the room is warm and comfortable, when he’s tired and soft, when the world is quiet and for all Grantaire knows, Enjolras is sleeping in the arms of another man.

“Wake up,” he says, as gently as he can. “If you must sleep it off then you must, but not here. The back room will be closed soon.”
Grantaire shifts, and looks up at him with one eye. “Ah, and you would not enjoy seeing me thrown into the cold? You are not as heartless as I imagined.”

Summary
“You haven’t been around,” he shoots back. It’s an accusation, and it’s a painfully dull summary for the past few weeks where Enjolras has been out of his mind having to hear about the life of a friend from other friends more entitled to his company. For all he knows, Grantaire has been replaced by a sub-par clone, or an evil twin. It’s still a possibility.
Grantaire only blinks, and leans against the doorframe. “Are you in a bad mood because I haven’t been around for you to take it out on?”

“Is everything ok?” Enjolras asked cautiously.
“Yeah, it is,” Grantaire said quickly – too quickly. “I just, uh, I’m not going to be able to come to Thursday night meetings anymore.”
Enjolras blinked. That certainly hadn’t been what he’d expected. “Why not?”
He hadn’t meant for it to sound accusatory, but judging by the look on Grantaire’s face, it did. “My schedule changed,” Grantaire said shortly.

“Do the rings under my eyes make me look shady?”
“No more than usual,” Musichetta said. “Worried about your image?”
“About my customers.” Grantaire blew on his cup of coffee. “I mean, you'd get that, right? It's our business to be trustworthy.”
“No, that's my business,” Musichetta corrected. “Your business is to seem trustworthy and never let people know that there's not a magically gifted bone in your body.”(In which Grantaire pretends to have magic, Enjolras pretends not to, Jehan struggles to work out the morals of working as an alley witch, and Musichetta just wants to tell fortunes from the back of her kiosk in peace.)

Grantaire doesn’t even know how the girl has sparking powder in her hands; maybe she’s done some intense chemical experiments in her free time but Grantaire swears the powder appeared in her hand like magic which is really fucking hilarious but-
Grantaire’s the bigger joke, because he dives in front of Enjolras and gets the full blow of all the sparking powder. He passes out like someone switched off the light in his mind.

Grantaire starts living in 1832 Paris and current England. He isn't sure which is the reality he should hold onto and if he doesn't make a choice, he's not certain he's going to survive.

Enjolras glanced around them before lowering his voice. “Very well. I have started a correspondence with someone from one of the submissions.”
“A correspondence?” Courfeyrac repeated, sounding far too delighted for the circumstances.
Enjolras nodded. “The letter writer sought someone who could explain the notion of revolution to him. To that end, I was more than happy to do so.”
Courfeyrac looked positively gleeful. “Dare I call this the coup de foudre?”

Summary
Enjolras was breathless from both running and laughing as they ducked into a dark alley. The police car chasing them zoomed right past and Grantaire slid into the little space beside Enjolras, holding his side and taking deep breaths.
“You,” he said, panting, “Are a fucking menace, Apollo. Who vandalizes a cop car when they’re still in it?”
Enjolras’ laughter bubbled up, spilling out despite his hand covering his mouth.
Grantaire was watching him with lit up eyes, smiling wildly, and Enjolras wanted to capture this light feeling in his chest in a jar and keep it by his bed.

“Fine,” Joly said shortly, taking his hand off of Enjolras’s chest. “If you want to take your stubborn ass home against medical advice, none of us can stop you.”
Bahorel cracked his knuckles. “I could.”
“None of us can legally stop you,” Joly corrected. He hesitated before adding, “Just do me a favor and take it easy? Limit your screentime for the next 24 hours. Let someone stay with you to make sure you don’t slip into a coma and die.”
Enjolras rolled his eyes, finally sitting upright. “Yes, Mom,” he huffed.
