    He can see it now. A woodstone cottage with a crackling hearth. A cozy pot roast on the dinner table. There are clovers and sweetpeas sweeping the garden bed, some that rise along the walls and some that are plucked by the hands of their tiny children. They laugh and play to their heart’s content before running into their parent’s arms, dirty, merry, and full of love.

    It's beautiful. Idyllic in every sense of the word.

    It’s everything she’s ever wanted. 

    And they’re all the things he can not give her.

    (Or: Hanako is a grim reaper, and he falls in love with the same soul. Over and over again.)

    And then came the eyes.

    There were eyes on them, sinisterly waiting and full of malice. They had to get away. With a squeeze of their hands and the unspoken command not to look back, they booked it back home. Light and airy footsteps followed them, they could hear the light tapping of feet meeting earth if they strained their ears. They could feel the threatening aura in the air. They smelled danger. But they did not look back.

     

    Humans are such vulnerable beings in a forest housing more than just them. How will they fare?
