He bravely resists the urge to tell her to go to her room until he can fully process the idea that his kid won’t be sleeping under the same roof as him for the first time in years. She’s taller than she was then, and she’s filled out some from years of steady food, but he can still see the 14 year old she was, and he’s hit with a little moment of panic when he realizes that the girl who relied on him almost entirely gets farther and farther away with each day that passes, replaced with this capable, confident young woman who can shoot anything she cares to put down and best nearly anyone in a fight.
This young woman starting to take her first steps away from him.
He doesn’t say any of that, however. The only thing he says is,
“Sure.”
