Summary
It occurs to Eddie later this is the closest he’s ever been to punching a superior.
It doesn’t so much surprise him that he felt this way, rather that he didn’t feel as strongly as this before. There were many moments in the army – hell, in the Dairy Freeze he worked in the summers in high school – where the inclination would’ve made much more sense than a figure he viewed as family. However, in the end, Eddie supposes it was inevitable. Inevitable that he’s feeling Bobby’s hands grip against his turnout, still askew and half-off where Chimney once was, hands running up his chest while he checked for injuries. Chimney is long gone, sprinting to where Hen cries out, the panic in her voice palpable and Eddie only has one functioning ear at the moment.
All of that means nothing to him, really.
Instead, he’s unilaterally focused on the helmet sitting on the ground as innocently as if someone placed it there. Rain, crashing against the visor, the flashlight still on and flickering in the storm. A helmet that should be on the head of the figure collapsed on the ground yards away.

Sign of the times
He’d had low grade nausea all morning, but had powered through it anyway, going for a jog, drinking a smooth, showering, dressing, heading to work. When he’d stepped into the station and smelled bacon cooking up in the loft upstairs - Bobby already hard at work on making breakfast for the shift - Buck’s brain had done a little complicated maneuver in which it attempted to tell him something like, mm bacon, but instead had tripped him up with an alert warning that he was about to evacuate his smoothie from his stomach.

“Which do you think makes you feel most loved?”
Eddie thought for a long moment. Too long, maybe. Then he shrugged, “Honestly, Buck? I have no idea.”
Buck’s brows pinched up. “What do you mean? When have you felt the most loved?”
“Don’t make a big thing of this, Buck. Promise?”
Buck made a show of crossing his heart, brows still raised curiously.
“I’m not sure I’ve ever… really felt loved in a relationship? I’m not convinced that I know what makes me feel loved…”
OR -
After finding out that Eddie doesn't know what his love language is, Buck sets about finding out for him. He begins a five week experiment, one for each love language, to figure out which will make Eddie feel the most loved.
