“Caleb,” says Caleb, who is on the bed.
“...you’ll have to pardon me. This is more off-putting than I expected to find,” says Caleb, who is by the door.
“Hm. Is that so?”
Essek surprises Caleb with a visit in Nicodranas, and a particular interpretation of celebrating good news via Polymorph.

Summary
“I thought I’d given the warning clear enough.”
“No, it was pointed.” Her lipstain has left an imprint in carmine on the wine glass. He has more than enough occasion to see it, as she twirls it over and over in her thumb and forefinger, showing him the edge as it spins. “Darling, have I been a bad mother?”
“...has someone implied otherwise?”
A fancy party, the knotty aftereffects of abuse, contemplations of Percy killing his father-in-law, and the conception of Vax'ildan Frederick de Rolo.

Summary
“I think what we were hoping, Lord de Rolo, is that our friend, that Laudna, could receive the same rebirth and second chance that Whitestone received.”
And who, young man, are you to arbitrate what second chances are deserved?
Percy listens to Bells' Hells plea for their friend's life, and considers what it will cost him to allow it.

Summary
Your thumb touches the edge, smearing dust, thick as paste. Your fingers dig into the back of the wood, where the canvas has been stretched and nailed, a memory on the rack; you slide the portrait out from where it has been saved by having been forgotten.
It is the last and only portrait of your family as they were, complete.
After the rebellion, when all their enemies were dead, Percy still must contend with ghosts.

Summary
Eventually she’s looked long and directly enough that the woman, who had been holding Percy’s tools in Percy’s workshop, and had Percy’s gold-wire magnifying spectacles balanced on the end of her smaller, thinner nose where they kept needing to be readjusted up, laid down the mold that she’d been cleaning and turned upon the bench.
“Vex’ahlia,” the woman warns.
“Percival,” Vex counters.
It had been a catastrophic series of decisions - both on their part, and upon the would-be assassin’s.
Vex attempts to both make Percy comfortable after a mishap, and satisfy a curiosity of her own.

Summary
The world is ending on a rolling basis. Orym’s druid monarch declared you a titan of blood and she looked afraid. You’re allowed to fuck your friends. Fuck knows you might not have another chance.
Fearne sighs, content, and rests her chin on her hand (which means digging an elbow into your collarbone like a chisel). “You know, you’d make a really good god. No pressure, just something to consider.”

Summary
A fine dusting of chalk and charcoal coated his hands and chest from countless attempts to correct his blasted diagrams, a layer of grime and dried sweat sitting heavily on his skin. He ran shaking fingers over the bead of force hidden amongst his earrings and the nightshade capsule sewn into his shirt collar. The elven chain shirt sandwiched between his outer and undershirt rattled softly as he moved.
Resigning himself to another restless night, he stared up at the deep maroon canopy overhead.Essek dreamt of the Nein.
AKA Essek tugs on the strings of fate a little too hard and gives both himself and the Nein a bit of perspective as a result.

Problem: He is a little in love with Jester Lavorre.
[No, not like that Bren. Don’t try to sweep things under the rug. Face your mistakes or they will burn you. Try again.]
Addendum: He is terribly, hopelessly, uselessly in love with Jester Lavorre.
