Summary
Living right at the border that separates reality, your community and a country at war requires a certain degree of adaptability and, to Ellis' chagrin, wariness. The latter is a trait he cannot uphold when a disgruntled foreigner crawls to his home. Even though she may very well be a disgraced Imperial mage, she also looks terrified and in need of a helping hand, though no one would fault him for sending her away.
The stranger is Morgiah, an outcast who used to thrive on magic and solitude. What makes her look so startled is the mere idea that someone like Ellis wants to be of use to her for seemingly no reason. Torn between what was stolen from her and her enjoyment of their time together, she struggles through it without ever being sure of Ellis' motives.
