    The first time Zoro opens his eyes, his first thought is huh.

    He doesn’t need to look to know that he must be absolutely covered in bandages, given how pain is still coursing through his body despite the volume of painkillers Chopper must have given him.

    (that’s assuming that chopper survived, of course. but this kind of thinking is not his wheelhouse, so he pushes it down with the rest of the shameful anxieties he’s harboured since he was nine years old and learning about death.)

    OR: the one in which nami and usopp realize that zoro is first mate for more than his ability to cut things open
