“When you said you had another surprise for me,” Aether starts, finally turning his impossibly golden irises to Zhongli. “I assumed you meant another teapot. I didn’t expect another mountain to arise.”
Zhongli smiles, pleased with Aether’s pleasure of the gift.
“I would have carved you space amongst the stars and lined the sky with your constellation,” he says, meaning every word. Aether is moving into his arms, which only serves to quicken Zhongli’s heartbeat even more so. He is small, and petite, but lined with muscles that Zhongli has traced and memorised the shape of every night he is able. “As it were, my place is here, on the ground, amongst the stone. A mountain is all I can offer.”
“‘All I can offer’, he says. Like it’s not the most extravagant gift any one has ever been given.”
