Summary
The "You've Got Mail" AU no one asked for! While Raleigh's working on the Wall, he starts trading emails with a guy he met on a now-defunct academy message board. They tacitly agree to not give away any details of their lives, mostly because... they're both jaeger pilots (one disgraced and one too full of himself for his own good), and they would both be almost universally recognized if they did, which would ruin the whole "secret confidante" thing they have working for them.
Then, Stacker Pentecost starts putting his final plan into motion, and suddenly, the two pen pals are both in Hong Kong. The events of the movie play out as scripted, with one exception: Chuck lives. And he finds out who his pen pal really is.
Now what the hell is he supposed to do?

Summary
Chuck never expects to survive Operation Pitfall. And he certainly doesn't expect Raleigh Becket, of all people, to care when it turns out that Chuck has somehow cheated death. It doesn't take long for Chuck to realise that living and surviving isn't exactly the same thing however — especially not with permanent damage he will carry with him for the rest of his life.
But maybe, just maybe, he can find ways to make it worthwile. Raleigh seems quite interested in the job, if nothing else.

Summary
Raleigh can admit that he finds it rather flattering to recieve fan letters but never pays them much attention until Charlie starts writing to him. Raleigh can't quite bring himself to answer but this Charlie — a sincere young boy determined to become a Jaeger pilot just like Raleigh — definitely leaves an impression on him. It's lingering enough that even after Knifehead, losing Yancy and returning to the PPDC five years later, Raleigh still hasn't forgotten about him, even if the letters ceased coming long ago.
And when Raleigh meets Chuck Hansen he can't help but wonder if this might be the Charlie he once knew. How many Jaeger pilots can there be with that name? But Chuck is nothing like Charlie and their ages don't match. Where Charlie was innocent and hopeful Chuck is arrogant and cynical. They can't possibly be the same person, can they?

Summary
Another escape pod is found near the Breach, shortly after Raleigh and Mako are located, and Chuck is alive, but in critical condition and suffering from radiation poisoning. His indeterminate status makes celebration difficult. Each person attempts to do their best to forge ahead after they've cancelled the apocalypse - and relationships tend to be forged, rather than broken, as there is still plenty for the PPDC to do.
Tendo takes on Max duty and Raleigh takes on Chuck duty so Herc can focus on his new responsibilities, Hermann waits for the birth of his first child, and Tendo and Newt seize the opportunity to make a move on long-held crushes.
