Summary
Chloe always dreamt of the fairy tale Happily Ever After of falling in love with a story book prince, and grew up with a very black and white version of right and wrong. Red challenges everything she ever thought she wanted.
Now she's living in the shades of grey.
(This is a spin off of my other story Red's Descent. For full context of a few of these scenes, you should probably read that one first. This is not a complete rewrite. While I did rewrite some scenes from Chloe's perspective, most are new or continuations.)

"She's self-aware. And hypocrites like Chloe who play by the rules instead of breaking the deck, princesses who can't acknowledge when their actions might be wrong, tick Red off immensely. Silly girls like that, who have been told all of their lives that they are good and everything that they do is good and get rewards from their mothers for basic human decency, have no place in her heart. She thinks she's hot stuff with her swordwork, but please. Chloe would never make it in Wonderland. She was just too… soft. Naive.
But that didn't necessarily mean that Red wanted to hurt her. The Queen of Hearts just has a way of making people fall in line."

On top of a brand new mother that's much too affectionate and the return of old friends she thought she lost for good— are they really still her old friends when everything's changed so much? — she must also sort out her ever-growing feelings for Chloe while resolving fading old ones for her first love.
Chloe is reeling. The change in time was supposed to make everything better, so why did it feel like everything was turned upside down? Being a supposed ‘bad girl’ didn’t suit her at all, and neither did remedial classes. At least she was well on her path to a happily ever after with the girl she liked! …Or, maybe not?

Red meets her mother as a child... and she's nice. And good, and happy. And she can't handle that. She runs, and Chloe chases after her. As much as Red tried to hide it from the blue-haired Princess, she can't handle the idea that her mother could truly love her, in any timeline.
