Summary
Humming in interest, Caleb sucks, slowly. Oh, it’s nice. It’s very nice. The suction is replaced by the smooth edges of teeth, distinctly felt as they drag over the flesh. There is the slide of wet lips and then the clink of teeth on metal. Ever so lightly, Caleb tugs at the star pendant that dangles from the softest part of his lobe.
“Hahhh—” Essek gapes, staring up at the wooden ceiling as he feels gravity flip deep within his belly. He blinks and wets his lips before he can speak again. “Light above. What are you doing to me?

Summary
Of the two of them, Essek is the braver in this. He’s the one who briefly touched two fingers to the back of Caleb’s hand and requested a moment alone, and he’s the one who drifted slowly into Caleb’s space, tilted his head and asked quietly for a favor. It was a terrible joke, terrible timing, but when Caleb surged forward and kissed him, Essek said “yes” and “light” and “Caleb”, and he kept saying those things until they got to where they are now.

Summary
“I would like you to know me,” Caleb says.
It feels like a secret. Like the darkest part of him cracked open; all his months and years of hiding, of wrapping his arms and scratching the bindings, of not loving, not loving anything but an unkillable cat — it’s unraveling around him. He feels naked. He feels the way he did the first time Pumat Sol spelled him clean.
“I find that — I would like you to know me,” he says, again.

Summary
In the ruins of Aeor, two wizards find a new source of enrichment for their enclosure - a mysterious object which reminds them of a peculiar 12-sided artifact. As they develop the art of flirting exclusively through 'as-per-my-last-email' worthy arguments from across the dinner table, a challenge presents itself. What follows is a nine-tier Rube Goldberg machine of bad decisions, architectured by Caleb's very own inability to know when to quit.

Summary
Rough hands reach for the clasp of his mantle, something that might be charcoal smeared across the back of one, fingernails ragged, right thumb smashed black and purple. He’s only done this twice before, but Caleb’s memory is a terrifying thing and his fingers do not hesitate undoing the metal frame about Essek’s shoulders. For the brief moment as he turns to set it aside, Essek lets himself look with open appreciation at the curve of Caleb’s spine. When he turns back to continue, Essek is impassive again. They both know his polite smile is a mask, a tenuous barrier between composure and desperation that Caleb is gently breaking down.

Summary
It started with a letter.
Essek had no attendance in his towers, no housekeepers or cooks, no cleaners or maids. Everything he couldn't take care of himself, he found a way to handle with a spell. So there was no easy answer for how the folded piece of cream colored paper ended up on top of his spotless desk in the study of his well secured home.
“To Essek Thelyss,” it read, in his own looping handwriting.
Five years after he was supposed to steal the beacons, Essek wakes with the memories of a different timeline in his head.

Summary
He would have missed it if he wasn’t looking. The slight downward shift of Caleb’s eyes, the infinitesimal twitch of a lip, the small furrowed line forming between his eyebrows, fingers moving to fiddle with a plain gold band on his left hand that wasn’t there the last time Eadwulf had seen him. And just like that, he knows.
He should’ve noticed it earlier. Why hasn’t he noticed it earlier?
“Husband.”
The word rings in the room almost like an afterthought and steals all of the air with it. Astrid blinks in surprise, for once visibly taken aback.
“Excuse me?”
“Essek is my husband. We had a small ceremony not long ago.”

Summary
Caleb and Essek return from Aeor as a couple. Veth is completely, 100% fine with this. Sure, it's a bit of a surprise, especially considering Caleb hadn't even bothered telling anyone about his plans to return to Aeor, but hey, they all have their own lives now. It's fine. Totally.
[A chat between Caleb and Veth about Caleb's new relationship, originally posted on Tumblr.]

Summary
Deirta Thelyss slowly stepped into the room, letting her eyes roam across the ordered chaos of her son’s old workspace. She stopped before him, her gown pristine, hair precisely braided, and elegant jewelry dangling from her ears. By comparison, Essek was a mess.
Essek left Rosohna for good after whatever good fortune left him alive after the unspeakable events in Aeor. After abandoning his position and choosing a life on the run in hopes of avoiding the consequences looming over his shoulder, Essek finds the time to contemplate what it means to have a family and what to do about the one he left behind.

Summary
The baby chews on the ring and considers Verin with doleful sea-green eyes.
"She is teething,” Essek reports, and the way he says it reminds Verin of the days Essek was still memorizing arcane fundamentals. “I am told that the lower tusks are particularly discomforting in their early stages, even when they are milk teeth."
“Understandable,” Verin replies. He feels mentally adrift, like he’s stepped into an alternate universe, one where his aloof brother has been replaced by this warm, doting double.
-
(Post-canon, Verin comes to a party at Essek's invitation, curious and hoping to reconnect - and is completely unprepared for how much Essek has changed.)

Summary
Mages can be utter bastards. Essek would know, being something of a bastard himself. But leaving a trap that can splinter a person's intellect, leaving them frightened and utterly helpless, one that would last for centuries, just waiting for an unlucky passerby? That's a particularly Aeoran kind of awful.

Summary
These are the facts. Essek Thelyss is a traitor to the Dynasty. He has collaborated with the Cerberus Assembly on dunamantic research. His loyalties are an entirely unknown quantity, and likely nonexistent. He is, above all else, a liar.
Also, he all but lives in the neighborhood now, and it’s very uncomfortable.
