Summary
Almost everything he did then was think about the difficult and/or dangerous work, and the tone of her voice, and the fact that he didn’t even want to think about what would happen if she had to be replaced, but the truth was there were several things he liked about being the Archivist’s assistant, just things he didn’t dwell on. For starters, he had learned more-- not just about the paranormal, but about the world in general. People skills, coping mechanisms… and he’d met Gerard, the book hunter.

Summary
/Rubatosis/
noun
the unsettling awareness of your own heartbeat, whose tenuous muscular throbbing feels less like a metronome than a nervous ditty your heart is tapping to itself, the kind that people compulsively hum or sing while walking in complete darkness, as if to casually remind the outside world, I’m here, I’m here, I’m here."What a terrifying responsibility it is, to hold someone’s heart. What a terrifying amount of power to have on such a dangerous man."

Summary
It's been a year since the Netherbrain's defeat, and Zevlor still cannot face the humiliation of his past. Content to stalk the streets of Baldur's Gate as a vigilante, he is ready to welcome death when it makes another attempt to claim him.
But, of course, the blasted Hero of Baldur's Gate won't let him die. After saving him yet again, Tav asks him to become her personal bodyguard against the alarming number of assassins hellbent on killing her.
He knows it's her own way of helping him feel less ashamed- to give him a chance to pay off the life debts he owes her. And the chance of piecing together his own honor once more is alluring. But perhaps most of all- it's a chance to have some semblance of a friend in a world that only seems to beat him down.
