Summary
Regulus and Barty are thieves, but Regulus is forced to join the royal soldiers to avoid imprisonment. They decide to use the situation to their advantage and steal from the castle. James is lowkey a soldier too, which might complicate things. Evan Rosier is a prince and what a shame it would be if Barty crossed paths with him. Barty is also very set on stealing the crown, which is a terrible idea.
OR
a fic in which Regulus is after Money (as if he's not rich already lol) and Barty wants Power and Glory (as if he doesn't have a very pronounced reputation already lol)

Summary
“Do you ever talk?” James kept asking, like the stupid person he was.
“Yes, but not to stupid people” is what Regulus answered–only in his head.
James just sighed at no response and kept adding ingredients to their potion. “I don’t know why you hate me so much, what did I ever do to you?”
“You keep calling me Sirius’ brother, I have a name.” Regulus answered, in his head only, once again.
They kept working and were reaching the end of the lesson, when James changed the course of his talking back to Regulus. “No, I’m serious, why do you hate me?”
Regulus ignored the serious/sirius joke that was available and hoped to get away without an answer, but James kept staring at him, clearly waiting for one.
Regulus didn’t know why James thought he hated him – he didn’t, he didn’t correct him either, but that didn’t mean it was true.
Yes, Regulus hated when James called him “Sirius’ brother”, but he didn’t hate him.
“I don’t,” Regulus answered truthfully, when it was obvious he had to say something.

Barty cried in disbelief causing Regulus to run to him, scared Barty might've gotten hurt again.
Which he had been–emotionally at least.
“What's wrong?”
“He has a girlfriend!” Barty wailed, shoving his phone with the picture in front of Regulus’ face.
“You mean a boyfriend? That's a guy,” Regulus pointed out.
“What?” Barty took another look at the picture. It was a guy, and he reminded Barty of his ex he had broken up with last year in the early spring.
“You know who he reminds me of?” Regulus prompted.
“Don't even say her name,” Barty threatened.

This was a daily thing they did. Barty would flirt, and Evan would flirt back, vise versa. It was normal. Everyone around them agreed. But nobody ever thought it was real. Of course it wasn’t. Evan and Barty? Pfft. That would never happen. They flirted and that was that, nothing else. Right?

Barty doesn’t think anything of it at first. Dorcas always tells him how obsessive, possessive, and impulsive he is, and though she never means it as a compliment, Barty always takes it as one. It’s just the way he is.
So Barty doesn’t think anything of it when he impulsively climbs into Evan’s bed, possessively wraps an arm around him, and obsessively asks, “You love me, right?”

Regulus became an Animagus because he wouldn't let Sirius and his friends become the youngest wizards to have ever accomplished that.
Being a cute, black cat he gets into every common room - scratching everyone who tries to touch him, except for a certain James Potter. He also so happens to be able to A) annoy his brother who is allergic to cats and B) overhear interesting conversations.( little bonus of Peter and the girls gossiping)
