    The Bat family is left reeling after Jason succeeds in taking his own life. Bruce struggles through grief as he grapples with more questions than answers.     Jason Todd was dead: to begin with. There is no doubt whatsoever about that. Bruce Wayne had signed the burial register, and no amount of clawing his way out of a grave with bloody fingers, and mud-covered skin and clothes will change that. No gentle words can undo the hurt that those days brought upon the small family of theirs. Jason Todd died, was buried and is, mind you, still dead.

    He can’t exactly put out a craig’s list ad for a friend, he’d feel too much like the Replacement if he stooped that low, so his next thought had been dating. People went to bookstores and libraries on dates, right? Or, like, to concerts and shit?

    Jason would be able to catch up on a lot of the things he’s missed, if he goes on a couple of dates.

    Plus, he’d hopefully make a friend or two out of the experience, even if he doesn’t find a partner – Gotham’s big enough, if he just sticks to it, he’s gotta find at least a couple of people who aren’t crazy.

    At least, that’s what he’d been thinking when he made his Full Hearts profile

    Jason, realizing that it's been a while since he's just chilled with someone not indoctrinated into the bat-lifestyle, wants to find someone cool he can just hang out with, maybe even while catching up on all of the things he'd missed out on these past couple of years. Of course, he's using a dating app (strike one) in Gotham (strike two), without really knowing what he actually wants (strike three, honey).

    There's absolutely no way this will go as planned.

    “There’s a saying,” Jason starts, "about New Year's Eve." It's a peace offering—the only one he can give when he can’t bring himself to say you’re wrong and I still call you dad, sometimes, in my head, when you can’t hear me, but he can’t say nothing, either. Not when Bruce is actually trying.

    Bruce swallows. “Oh?”

    “Yeah.” Jason meets his eyes. “They say that the way you meet the new year is the way you'll spend it.”

    And Bruce isn’t Batman for nothing—he knows it means something, that Jason is here: that his choice has led him right to Bruce’s doorstep.

    Or: Jason bonds with his goons, spends the lead-up to the new year straddling the line between new and old, and has an epiphany. It might just be time to reconcile with his family—except he isn’t sure that family is still his, as he is now.

    Bruce, as it turns out, has something to say about that.

    ft. Food (and cookies!) as a metaphor for love, a closer look into the meaning of a memorial, and an old dog that—evidently—can learn new tricks (in that Bruce Wayne learns how to communicate).
