Dream’s mind felt thick, a muffled haze seeping through every thought, blurring each edge the longer he lingered in Sol’s presence. It was as if his very will was dulled, wrapped in an unseen fog that softened his defenses, weakening his resolve with every beat of his exhausted SOUL.
"You know this little barrier hardly holds us," Sol murmured, satisfaction curling in his tone like smoke. "Are you so eager to break our agreement?"
Dream’s jaw clenched, frustration pulsing through his core, his SOUL flickering in silent rebellion. "I’m not—" But his words stumbled, faltering as Sol’s fingers drifted over his shoulder in a avaricious caress, sending prickles down his spine and deepening the cloud over his mind.
"No?" Sol’s voice was a velvet whisper, a challenge wrapped in silk, his hand trailing down Dream’s arm, lingering just enough to leave a trail of heat in its wake. "Then be still, Guardian. Rest. Let yourself be attended to for once, won’t you?"

The tendrils wound tightly around Dream, their touch slick and cool against his fevered bones, a twisted blend of torment and fleeting relief. He gasped for air, each breath a ragged, broken thing as his wounds throbbed with searing pain, crying out for mercy. His body, heavy with fatigue, ached to give in, to let the darkness consume him. But he couldn’t—he wouldn’t. Not when everything was on the line.
Not when there’s so much left at stake.
He needs to save them.
He needs to save him.
He needs to see him again—just once more. To fix what’s been shattered, to reach out through the wreckage and pull his brother back from the darkness that’s consumed him.

“It’s over, Dream.”

Summary
“Hush,” Nightmare cooed, a gentle shushing sound slipping from his mouth as he drew Dream closer, pressing the smaller form against his chest. His tendrils loosened their grip, retreating, though Dream's small fingers still clung to one, refusing to let go entirely, even in his distress. Stubborn, as always.
Even as he sobbed, his body racked with trembling, Nightmare stroked the top of his skull in a slow, deliberate motion. “Tell Nighty why you're crying," he pried, his tone sickly sweet, even though he already knew the answer. The evidence was written all over Dream's skull, plain as day.

Summary
"Wait, wait—" Dream’s protest fell out in a rushed breath, more tendrils slipping around him, coiling with a surprising tenderness as they supported his weight. Their touch was featherlight, far from constricting, almost careful in the way they held him.
He could have resisted. If he had truly felt inclined, he could have broken free. But the shock of the moment held him captive more than the tendrils themselves. His arms flailed, half-heartedly attempting to push away, but his willpower faltered before it even truly ignited. There was no real threat here, no sense of looming danger. He felt more surprised than anything else.
Perhaps, under different circumstances, Dream might have felt alarmed. Perhaps he should have been. But that wasn’t the point. Not now. Not with that quiet, unnerving comfort seeping into him like the coolness of the tendrils against his bones.

This, this humiliation, was why he had agreed in the first place—why he’d sided with Sol. To go up against someone who rivalled his power, who had also given themselves to the same corruptive forces, was foolish. No matter how much the very thought sickened him, how much he loathed the idea of bending to Sol’s whims, the alternative was far worse.
I'll strike a truce with you, Sol had whispered with that devilish smile, if you'll be my mate.
It was degrading. Vile. The mere thought of it twisted something deep inside him, but the knowledge that his men would be safe—that he wouldn’t have to wage war on two fronts, against both Sol and Dream—had outweighed his pride.
Still, the bitterness lingered. He had no desire to submit to any Alpha, let alone that Alpha. Sol’s control, his smug superiority, grated on Nightmare’s every nerve. But for now, he had to endure it—for his gang, for the tenuous balance he needed to maintain.
Even if it meant swallowing his pride for a man he despised.
