Summary
Byleth was unknowing of what she was getting herself into the first time she ran these circles, following her chosen leader, following her cubs. She'd happily give her life for them. She never even realized the suffering she was in for. It seemed so innocent. At first. It's amazing, the kind of tortures you can find in the heads of teenagers. But she loved these student, her children, and followed them to hell and back before realizing this wasn't the future she wanted. The future any of them wanted.
So she tried again, and she picked the church. The end still bittersweet.
Again. This time it was her precious fawns. It still made her heart ache.
Again. Her fledglings might bring a happy ending with proper care. But no. Fate is cruel and history oft repeats itself. Four different paths, none of them happy. Each had ends that wouldn't be justified considering their means. Each time she lost something she considered precious.
The fifth time she started over wasn't of her own volition. When you keep hitting the reset button, eventually something breaks.
Or, your typical time loop story made fairly atypical.
