Spencer Reid had been struggling for a long time, unbeknownst to his friends and colleagues.
So when a call comes to his team out of the blue, telling them he's in the hospital after being found washed up along the banks of the Anacostia River, they must piece together what really happened and whether they could have done anything to help.
The uncomfortable truths they discover along the way make them realise they could and should have been paying closer attention to their young genius and now they have to find a way to help him take the first steps on the road to recovery.

Anyone who knew Spencer Reid could tell you he was comforted by numbers. They wouldn’t, of course, even if they could - the list of people Spencer would allow ‘knew’ him is relatively short. His mom isn’t telling anyone much of anything these days, and his team… they just wouldn’t. No profiling each other means the word ‘comfort’ never escapes their lips. Still, it was a known fact even if no one talked about it. Spencer Reid was comforted by numbers.
Lot of good it was doing him now - there weren’t any particularly hopeful statistics for his current situation.
