Summary
Julian hears a clink down the row.
His head whips around to see a stout bottle with no cork tipping off the shelf. Julian barely catches the bottle. It tips over in his palm, spilling a thick purple, almost black, liquid down his arm. Julian carefully rights the bottle and sticks it back onto the shelf. Purple drips down into the crook of his elbow in thick rivulets, though it is too goopy to drip. Julian hopes it isn’t dye.
Julian dips his hand into the water of his bath. The ooze sluices from his skin, bubbling out over the water as Julian uses his other hand to scrub it off. It dissipates some, leaving behind the scent of wine, vanilla, and some flower that Julian doesn’t recognize. Julian shrugs. Perhaps The Apprentice will like it on him.
Julian lowers himself into the water without further preamble, and lets himself soak. Bubbles continue to occasionally pop until the room is left with a haze. Somehow the scents don’t get overwhelming, though they are strong. It feels like they’re filling his lungs with each breath he takes. It’s warm, almost too warm, and Julian wonders why he didn’t think to open the window before getting in.
Oh, well.

The pain is gone, but as I watch blood blossoming over Julian’s shirt, my relief is very short lived.
He begrudgingly accepts my hand as I pull him back on his feet.
