Summary
“Let’s start a band!” Marina blurted out, words twisted by an unfamiliar accent dripping off of plush lips. The moon shone between them, lush and full, the final chords of Marina's song still echoing across the cliffside, bouncing off jagged rocks and dancing across ripples of clear water. The girl's eyes were starry, filled with hope.
“Huh?” Pearl asked, incredulous. That had come outta nowhere!
Coddamn. Was this girl for real?
A song and a mission brings unlikely companions Marina, certified genius and recently-defected Octoling combat engineer, and Pearl, Inkling streetwear heiress and (former) death metal screamer together. But as they navigate language barriers, parents, and the music industry, their friendship begins to blur into something more. With each new song, their connection deepens, and they realize that they may be playing for more than just Off the Hook.

Summary
“So… where should I get one?” Marina asked. Pearl cocked a brow, her face wrinkling up in the endearing way Marina had come to know signaled her confusion, golden eyes crinkling at the corners. "A piercing, that is.”
Pearl chuckled again through closed lips, the lilt of it sending heat to Marina’s cheeks. “You want a piercing? You sure?” It sounded like a tease, but Marina could tell—after knowing Pearl for a little over two years—that this was a sincere question.
“Why not?” Marina asked, frowning. If a piercing was what helped Pearl to become her own person, of course Marina would want one too.

Summary
“Y’know, I never thought I’d get this,” Pearl said, her voice abnormally soft.
What this was went unspoken.
The trust. The loyalty. The mutual respect. The camaraderie. (And yes, the attraction.) How, even though the two of them were so different, they seemed to understand each other completely.
How Pearl gave Marina a voice. How Marina gave Pearl stability.
“I… me neither,” Marina swallowed, her eyes locked with Pearl’s.
Pearl leaned back in her chair again, swiping a thumb across Marina’s knuckles. “Yo, look at us, ‘Rina. Livin’ the life.”
Pearl and Marina recount their pasts. (aka pearlina's gay awakenings... among other things)

Summary
Pearl did not want to be here right now. Her stage fit was fine as it was. She didn’t understand why they needed to change their image so much. Pearl bit her lip as she looked into the mirror. She pulled at the dress’s collar. It was strangling her neck, and the huge-ass zipper had her about to tip over tentacles over feet. This was not her.
“Ok,” Marina called out, from behind the dressing room curtain. “I’m coming out.”
Pearl couldn’t even imagine what they had done to Marina.
Pearl whirled around, and—
Oh, shit!
Marina slunk out from behind the blue velvet curtain, a shy look on her face. All Pearl's thoughts of her own dress went out the window.
Damn.
Pearl and Marina at a fitting. Were the outfits really that cute or were they just yearning for each other?

Summary
“This is not what we agreed upon,” their publicist snapped, holding up the paparazzi photo that had been snapped of them.
When she'd gotten the call, she'd been out in the garage working on her bike, grease coating her fingertips, and Marina had not been expecting this.
A photo of them in the VIP section of a concert, Pearl's arms slung around Marina’s shoulders, faces dangerously close. Pearl’s neck was craned up, just so. A photo of the two of them staring at each other, eyes boring into eyes. While they were surrounded by people, they looked like they were the only ones in the room.
Oh, no.
Pearl and Marina mess up. Their record label is not pleased.

Summary
“So,” Mom says one weekend afternoon as she and Robin stare down the Sunday Times crossword, huddled together on the porch swing, “you and Steve Harrington sure have been living in each other’s pockets lately.” She puts down the pen and gives Robin a carefully-probing smile disguised as a teasing one. “Anything you wanna tell me?”
Yeah; I’m gay, Robin thinks. Her throat constricts painfully. “I—you’d know if I were dating someone,” she says instead.

Summary
Robin’s heart clenches, “Nance, you could literally have any guy in Hawkins if you wanted.”
“But I don’t… I don’t want just any guy.” Her gaze dips yet again, “Or a guy at all really.”
All of a sudden she feels very dizzy, “What else is there?”
Nancy wets her lips, “I think you know.”
