It was stupid, really; a gross miscalculation. If he thought Sanji was going to back down from any kind of challenge, let alone one set by a particularly bratty marimo, he should have known better. Sanji scooped up a chunk of rice on his fingers and promptly shoved them into Zoro’s mouth.
Sanji expected spluttering. He expected to be shoved away, grumbled at; expected some cursing and maybe a scuffle.
He did not expect Zoro’s eyes to close, for his tongue to work up in between his fingers, for him to suck as he pulled away slowly, just far enough to let them linger on his lip.
Maybe Zoro didn’t know when or why Sanji learned to play piano. But he knew his buttons. He knew what days were for inventory and what days were for laundry, he knew what soap Sanji preferred and how hot he liked his bath. He knew Sanji would remember everyone’s birthdays and what their favorite desserts were. He knew what time Sanji got up in the morning and how to tell how he slept based on whether he had coffee or tea with breakfast. Zoro may not have known everything about Sanji’s past, but he was an expert on his present.
And so he knew perfectly, painfully well what it meant when Sanji’s nose started to bleed.

Summary
When Sanji gets distracted during a fight with some unknown pirates, Zoro steps between him and a devil fruit user, taking the hit in his place. Luckily for them it doesn’t look like he has been injured– it doesn’t look like he’s been hit at all. And everything seems normal when they get back to the Thousand Sunny, until Zoro starts acting weirdly, especially around Sanji.
And well— it seems like the swordsman has fallen in love with him.
