Zeke Yeager was a policy analyst. Every Friday night, he gigged as a music selector at a bar in South Liberio. While Levi Ackerman hated bars but he went there every week to escape from himself. Despite a seemingly mutual disdain, they continuously succumbed to each other as they found an unexpected remedy in this peculiar knot that they both were tangled in.

“I’m sorry, Levi,” Zeke mumbles under his breath, and Levi could feel the way his husband’s body is raking up, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” Zeke echoes the same thing over and over again, his voice gradually weakening with each syllable mouthed, like a broken cassette tape, unlubricated on its binder.
With all Zeke’s desperate apologies, Levi presses his body even closer, each of his limbs is locked in his husband’s body, holding him firm as if Zeke was going to disappear if he loosens up his grip. It’s warm and familiar, and it makes him remember, although he doesn’t want to remember especially within this situation, how they used to make love.

It seems that Zeke has given up on their marriage. Levi wonders why.

She couldn’t remember the last time that happened. No, that’s a lie… she thought. There must have been a time before, but—she flinched, and clutched her throbbing head. Her body knew the truth. It sang its verses in her stuttering heart, in the cold shiver that ran up her spine.
