You know if this year’s harvest is damaged by the predicted frost, it will be very bad for your town. You agree that appealing to the ancient forest god worshiped in this area hundreds of years ago is worth trying. However, the Councilor’s translation of the ancient rituals is crap and when you argue with him, backed by your own translations, you’re still pushed aside.
Imagine your surprise when the name of the unmarried woman to be chosen for sacrifice is your own.
Now you need to figure out a way to save, not only your town, but also yourself.

Excerpt:
No words are forming in your throat. He takes your hand that drips with blood and brings it to his lips, placing the two cut fingers into his mouth and gently sucking. Those golden eyes stare into you like he has known you all your life, as though he can read you like an open book. You are frozen stiff, unsure of what to do.
He releases your fingers from his mouth, his tongue and sharpened canines dragging along the tender flesh. You take your hand back, holding it tightly around the wrist, looking over the wound. There is nothing, only a slash of pink skin to suggest anything was there to begin with. Before you can thank him, he gently spins you around and merely says, “let’s get you home, then.”

“I’d like to propose a wager,” Viktor starts as he finally settles on one of the doors to open. “And an exchange of sorts.”
“Oh? And what would they be?” The voice sounds amused, giddy almost at the prospect of Viktor trying to change up the game.
Viktor smirks, placing the mask back over his face to hide just how nervous he was at the idea of gambling with a deity.
And by the time the parameters of the deal are set, Viktor’s hands are no longer shaking. He stands in front of his selected door with the renewed confidence of a man determined.
