Summary
Garrett's always been a man of the streets, one who listens to the whispers of the shadows and whispers back. Corvo became the shadows in essence for his own - and his daughter's - survival. Together, they are trying to stop the toppling of a nation. However, to do that, they have to get past their own issues first- and neither man is making it particularly easy.

Summary
Only in limitation does the master show himself, and only the law can give us freedom.
His name was Corvo Attano, a man of the empire, come to clean up.
For far too long, eternal city had poisoned the organism from the shadows of the empire. Like swollen, infested ticks, the outlaws of the fetid city spoiled the healthy flesh of the system.
If you asked Garrett, the flesh of the system was a rotten fish at best. But after all, he was one of those ticks that the man had come to pull.
_____________
This may be slow burn and a long story, but if there's something I really pay attention to it's keeping Corvo and Garrett (and all of the others too) in character.
This is a mix between the old thief games and the reboot, but you don't have to know the old games to understand what's going on. :)

Summary
A canon-compliant rework and extension of MW2: Reboot.
Simon was an unstoppable force, but Fate was an immovable object.
Stationary.
When you ignore it, and put up walls to secure yourself, it only delays the inevitable. Unavailing. It doesn’t stop it. Moments in time slowly drill their way through, picking an open scab until it turns to scar tissue. It will break your skin until it drains you. You will deteriorate into ashes, scattered by the wind.
And if you force yourself against Fate, shielded with a lifetime of trauma that you use to protect yourself– you’re forced to recognize why you put the walls up in the first place. Every moment full of agony, abuse, anguish.
Your walls will crumble, because Fate never fails.
And as Fate tore the first wall apart, Simon was pushed.

Summary
“Spit it out, Sir,” Ghost groaned, the first real words he’d said in an hour or so. And it was late, they were tired, so Soap didn’t think much before he spoke.
“Do you keep it on during sex?” Soap asked, near shamelessly. Ghost slowly sat up straighter, to look back at him, looked him up and down,
“Wouldn’t you like to know, Johnny,” Ghost settled for, a small smirk on his hidden lips. He leaned back again.
“Maybe I do,” Soap said back, because what was the harm? Ghost just shook his head,
“Maybe you got hit in the head harder than you thought,”
Or, after Soap makes a few comments, about the mask, about sex, Ghost can't think of much else. And when Soap offers to fuck him after calling him pretty, why would he refuse?
DISCLAIMER Feb 2024: Its been bothering me since I wrote this, but when I wrote this, I didn't know who had the higher rank between Soap and Ghost lmao so the first few chapters are just *off* bc of it. And I have not had the motivation to edit it.

Summary
John took a step back at Simon’s step forward and visibly swallowed. Years and years of anger, hurt, and pain started to work their way through Simon’s body. He tried to swallow it back and tried not to blame John for feeling trapped in the past. But it still fucking hurt. The numerous nights he laid awake wondering if John was even alive, the hundreds of times Mary had broken down because she felt she failed as a sister. So many days he had spent mourning a friendship he thought long gone, only for them to see each other again in some dingy pub on a random Friday night.
“You don’t even know what you did do you,” Simon took another step forward, and John took a step back. “You don’t know the pain that you caused when you just fuckin’ vanished. You didn’t leave a note, you left your phone behind. You left fuckin’ nothin’. Nothin’ but that fuckin’ journal.” John’s eyes went impossibly wider and he opened his mouth to speak but Simon cut him off. “I mourned you.”
--or Ghost and Soap were childhood friends. Ghost became a twitch streamer, Soap joined the military. Angst ensues.
