In the time it takes her to do this he draws closer. Him and his fucking stopwatch— the ticking sounds like gunshots in her head.
Nathalia swipes her hand across Lila's face, pressing against her eyelids, leaving a streak of bright red as she goes. "Play dead," she whispers, and rises from her crouch.

Summary
The story goes like this.
They're in some kind of nightclub, purple and blue neon lights flashing by the dance floor, too loud music with heavy bass thrumming up Cellbit's chest as he sits on a bar stool. He has a glass of some expensive whiskey at his elbow and a napkin between his fingers that he folds and straightens out to keep himself busy. There's an arachnid standing behind the counter, eyes bright as they lock on Cellbit's with a strange intensity.
The story goes like this.
Cellbit and Roier meet for the first time in a nightclub in an overcrowded planet amidst the start of a war. They fall in love.

Roier knows he's going to die. They brought someone new into the cell next to his the other day, the one that's been empty this whole time. He doesn't know when exactly, because the Feds did something to his food, and he's been sleeping at weird intervals on and off for the last week.
Roier knows the ship is running out of power. They turned on the emergency lights weeks ago, and the main lights haven't come back on since. They've taken to placing physical locks on the doors to the cells instead of relying solely on their programs; he's seen them when he pretends to be asleep.
Roier knows he's going to get out, and he'll make them pay.
