Sirius laughs. It’s a sharp sound, almost surprised, but it makes her stomach loosen.
“You’re special,” he says dryly, finally turning to look at her properly. He watches her for a beat longer than she expects, like he’s searching for something in her face—some answer she doesn’t know how to give. Whatever it is, he seems to find it.
