“You do remember it, don’t you, hero? Or perhaps… something of a demonstration is in order?” Though it was framed as a question, you knew it had no answer. It was a statement, a threat, and a promise all tied together with a gaudy bow.
You clenched your teeth, glaring at your captors and steeling yourself as best you could. They wanted to hurt you, and you were powerless to stop them. Despite that, you couldn’t simply give in and acquiesce to their torment, nor would they find you begging.
The expression on Thancred’s face had twisted, morphing into something more somber, something helplessly angry. Something like guilt flickered in his eyes, but before you could even muse on that any further, the click of a button echoed in your ears and suddenly you were drowning.

Summary
It started with individual keys, testing the pitch, pressed so so carefully as though making too loud a sound would shatter it to pieces. Then chords, in order, just to see if he remembered them. And then the chords came out of order, in a different order, to the tune of her favorite songs, and it was like she was still there.

Parents would let their children stay up till the wee hours of the night, and kids would gorge themselves on candies and sodas. New Year's Eve however, was the pinnacle of their iconic gatherings. Not only was it his father’s favorite holiday, it was also the night they celebrated his birthday.
The thing none of them knew was that Hero had his own traditions for New Year’s Eve too."
