Summary
A year.
A whole year has passed since Tooru left. A year of endless days stretching out in front of Hajime, each one heavier than the last. A year since the letter, handed to him by Tooru’s parents with tear-streaked faces, has stayed sealed in the drawer of his nightstand. Their nightstand. The one they had shared for so long.
The letter, so full of Tooru’s unmistakable warmth and humor, remains untouched, sitting there as if it’s some cruel reminder of everything Hajime has lost. He hasn’t been able to bring himself to open it, not yet. A year, and he still isn’t ready.
Tooru had come back to Japan for good. He’d received an offer from a major league in Japan, and without a moment"s hesitation, he’d taken it, planning it all as a surprise for Hajime. The thought had been enough to send Hajime into a whirlwind of emotions, a perfect storm of joy, excitement, and disbelief. After all those years apart, after all those phone calls and video chats, they would finally be living together again. The thought of seeing Tooru’s face every day, of waking up to him beside him, was something Hajime had dreamed about for so long. It felt like a dream come true. The kind of dream that Hajime had long since given up on.
