“I would spend it with you,” Boya says, and the words feel careful and delicate for all that Qingming knows that there is no hesitation in them. “I would find you, and wherever you were, I would be there,” he says like a quiet, misting rain, as if it were both an oath and a confession—as if he were divulging more than what either of them have already said. It whispers over Qingming’s skin and etches words in his heart.
When Boya is foretold to die on Qixi, Qingming finds himself cursed to relive the same day until he can save him.

“Not at all. It’s been known to happen,” Qingming said. “On rare occasion. I try not to bring my manners out too often, for fear that I’ll wear them out through overuse.”
Qingming was a despicable man, Boya decided, even though he already knew that. Utterly despicable.
He held out his cup for more wine anyway.

As Qing Ming drew the last preservation ward over the body lying on the jade altar, the cold air shimmered, crystallising to freezing point. Frost bit over the pale, handsome face of the corpse, dressed in black leather and silk armour, his hands folded over his chest. The weapons that the corpse had once worn across the small of his back now adorned the spirit servant who shared his face, standing a step behind Qing Ming as the Yin Yang Master checked his work.
Satisfied, Qing Ming turned away. His jaw clenched as he glanced at Bo Ya, averting his gaze as though in embarrassment. “It’s done,” Qing Ming said, his voice dropping to a low murmur. “As long as I’m alive, the spell preserving your body will hold. I’ll find a way to return your spirit to it.”

Boya wrinkles his nose. “Consider it paid in full.”

Post-big battle, Qingming goes home with Boya. The two of them spend time together, Boya processes his feelings about everything, and the two of them get together (again?).
