Carina replayed the events in her mind like she was watching the scene from the outside. She saw herself run to Maya, lead her out of the E.R. while the rest of 19 walked in the opposite direction.
She had wanted privacy. She had wanted to give Maya the news of the baby away from prying eyes. The moment she’d laid eyes on her wife, she hadn’t been able to restrain herself and her joy. To share that joy with Maya, she had taken her away from safety. She had done this.
