Summary
Lain Iwakura sat quietly in the waiting room of the small little therapy practice, watching the clock tick by with the sort of idle curiosity that a cat had for the birds it was preparing to kill. In her head, she imagined pulling it off the wall, tearing it into tiny pieces with her hands and a screwdriver, and then leaving the scattered corpse of it as detritus for her new therapist to find, much like how her cat would leave the corpses of birds by her windowsill, trying to feed her animal parts. Lain didn't have the cat anymore. She didn't have much, a computer, a bedroll, a screwdriver, somehow by the grace of God a degree at a decently respectable university... and that was about the extent of it. Her family "existed" around her, but she couldn't really consider herself connected to them in any real fashion.
Today was her first day at therapy. She was scared.

So, the least he could do was protect what he had grown fond of.
That included Kohaku. Who almost had a bullet put right through him. Because Madara had been too reckless.
Kohaku, as he really stood before him, had morphed into a somewhat blurry image of a dirty corpse staring right at him, blood freely pouring out of the pale figure. It's all your fault. It's all your fault. You did it. You couldn't even protect him. You killed hi-
“Oi, Earth ta Madara-han! I'm tryin' t'talk to ya!”
Finally, Madara was taken by the hand and dragged out of his terrifying imagination and back into reality.

Summary
Checking in is just as discreet as Madara said it would be — the lobby is completely devoid of life. Kohaku lingers a few steps behind Madara as the latter picks out a room on the big screen in front of them and tries to imagine what they must look like right now: two teenagers with blood on their hands, one of whom is injured and clearly underage, checking into a love hotel past midnight on a weeknight. Is all the discretion really moral, if it means even the two of them can fly under the radar?
He thinks about the way their target’s hands twitched when Madara fired the killing shot, how hot the spray of blood across his face was, and decides he isn’t one to be worrying too much about morals right now.
