    “Not really. Think about it. We’re practicing so you’ll be better at kissing girls. That’s, like, the opposite of gay."

    Yeah, now that Satoru thinks about it, that does make sense. Anyway, it’s hard to think clearly when Suguru is suddenly climbing onto the bed, invading his personal space and leaning in so Satoru can feel his breath against his lips.

    “So, no homo, right?” Suguru asks softly, interrupting his thoughts.

    “Yeah… Yeah, okay,” Satoru whispers.

    And then Suguru kisses him.

    In which everyone knows Satoru and Suguru are dating, except Satoru and Suguru themselves. (5 times they don't realize they're dating 1 time they do.)

    Immediately, Satoru feels all the joy in his body wither away into disappointment, his evening—no, his life—completely ruined. Devastated. He thinks he may never feel genuine happiness ever again.

    Suguru looks at him softly—lovingly—and Satoru realizes it’s the same way he’s always looked at him. “Yeah, I do.”

    love the characters. that kdj wasn't as unaware as previously indicated was the best surprise. that nirvana wasn't easily villainized, that this whole romcom plot has so much unexpected depth to the characters and all that good shit. amazing,

    Many have flocked to Liyue to try their hand at conquering Rex Lapis’ Path of Indomitable Jade, rumoured to be relentless in its challenge but bountiful in its reward. Unsurprisingly, Ajax’s one track mind honed in on the word challenge and ran all the way to Celestia with it.

    No one told him it was a bygone tradition that vied for the emperor’s hand in marriage, not until much later, when Liyue was already decked to the nines in preparation for the coronation of the emperor’s beloved consort– an Ajax-shaped consort.

    (In which a bored Childe thinks he’s scaling up mountains to fight adepti and gain bountiful gifts for his nation and all that jazz, but he actually ends up wooing one of them and fighting favour from the rest and-- uh, wait, what do you mean the eccentric rock enthusiast is the emperor--)

    1st chapter also already i feel the writing insp potential

    i was thinking "it would be so cool if this scene was actually backstory to the main events" and it turns out IT WAS!!! Wow! I think it was Zhongli's aversion to exploring weaknesses such as loneliness and his overall...very stubborn attitude that felt like it belonged to pre-canon. I've seen fics where Zhongli's attitude remains unchanged during the main events of the story, but I find an air of emotional maturity much more fitting to the Zhongli we know.

    2nd chapter
    “None whatsoever. Our Lord’s judgement in his romantic endeavours is not my place to comment.”
    "Look at his expression! The candidate must be infuriating!"
    "One has not seen such disgust since the Electro Whooperflower plague. The situation must be dire."
    "If this one is detrimental--"
    "Fellow esteemed adepti. I assure you that this is my neutral expression."

    5th chapter
    when did i get here so quickly?
    the explicit & implied chongqiu is a very neat background thing lol. and i love how characters and lore are integrated so perfectly.

    7th chapter
    wow okay i kind of expected the flow of the story to get into the wedding mentioned, but looking back it was a very vague thought.

    ch 9
    Scaramouche, mumbling angrily on one of the Tsaritsa's boats as they bring the whole dang circus to Liyue: "I'm gonna kick his flat ass so hard it's gonna go cONCAVE"
    (lmaooo the end notes are a riot every time)

    ch 10
    "Oh?" Ajax let out a thoughtful hum as he closed the document folder. "Which one?"
    "The Tianshu."
    "Interesting." Though fairly incognito, Ajax knew that the old man fishing by the pier was a semi-retired Tianshu who didn't care for politics much, including those that deal with the Snezhayan outlanders. Out of the seven Liyue Qixing, he was the only one who had yet to request an audience with him.
    --> this single-handedly allowed me to discover the political worldbuilding of liyue through some wiki scrolling. i was majorly surprised and informed.
    ch 14
    just want to say. the STRUCTURE. the intensity, the emotions. the conflict. the characterization. rising and falling action. look at me, applying english lessons to the real world. ironically, this chapter made me realize that i may have to retract my ch 1 judgment about Zhongli's emotional maturity...but not really, considering that Miscommunication basically IS the entire conflict. and i really think it was done well. even in the most ridiculous (to the viewer) of conclusions, there was only a small measure of contrivedness. truly, it's a beautifully planned and executed and immersive story.

    "Hungry for food, then raised hungry for validation. Ajax watched as the lights now started to float heavenward with the ocean breeze. And I'll most likely die hungry for power.
    And he didn't really mind about this matter of fact. Everyone eventually dies someday, but not everyone gets to live."

    "Don't worry Mister Childe! I heard about it from my friend, Xinyan---who heard it from another friend, Chongyun, who knew about it because his new fian-- I mean! Er, my other friend, Xingqiu, told him Madame Xu had mentioned it in passing." Xiangling whispered low, out of Zhongli's earshot.
    Ajax blinked owlishly, mouth agape. "Does everyone in Liyue know each other?"

    "A good one, I hope?"
    "Yes. But the thing about change is that there is an element of trepidation to it. On the other hand, however, it is to be expected that all things worth pursuing would come with risks."

    "...and with that, a comical scene of Xingqiu chasing Hu Tao took place. Thankfully, most of the guests were piss-drunk and simply cheered as the two weaved between the banquet tables, clapping as if they were another performance. With a theatrical air, Hu Tao finally escaped Xingqiu's wrath by jumping off the side of the Jade chamber with a loud "Xingqiu is a goober for Chongyun! Heehee~! Good night Liyue!", to the shocked laughter of her audience. Her glider then popped open and glided her to safety below."

    Zhongli: why do you keep cleaning your glasses they're fake
    Madame Ping: gotta make sure I'm seeing this bullshit for real my lord
    (lmaoo)

    "Rejoice comrades!"
    Oh, thank archons for the interruption. Any longer and... "Her Majesty, the great Tsaritsa of Snezhnaya, Cryo Archon of the Seven, graces us with her presence from Zapolyarny Palace. All hail! Long live her Majesty! Glory to Snezhnaya!"
    Never mind. It probably just got worse.

    "In fact, I find his quality of handwriting is inversely correlated to how much he worries about you. And in recent weeks, it has been reduced to squiggles."

    "Oh, wait." Venti covered his eyes dramatically. It painted a childishly bizarre picture. “I don’t know who said that. It must have been the trick of the light. A whistle of the wind.”
