Summary
It was ironic really that now as Maria looks back on her adolescence she uses a child’s game as a metaphor for it when she despised that game as a child. She used to think anyone who played it was young and silly, weak even, but now that game seems important to her in some way. She believes it to not only represent her childhood but in a way her whole life. In the military she was constantly trying to keep ahead, ahead of the game. And then when employed by shield she had to relearn the game, this was completely new, and she had to learn to adapt and find new tactics. Every tagger was different, her father, lieutenant officer Davison (her captain), shield as a whole, but each could simply be metaphors. Metaphors for a game of tag.
