Astarion returns and Cazador remembers.
His pillow hears it all and Vellioth doesn’t, he hopes. Maybe this would be the only acceptable prayer, provided he continues to worship at Vellioth’s feet, sleep at the foot of Vellioth’s bed, and try to win some scrap of favor from the Martinet.
He is up before Vellioth and Vellioth is up before the rest of the house. The buttons of Vellioth’s doublet are familiar under his hands. He counts each one as he fastens it, finishing with the button at the top. The collar just covers Vellioth’s own two pin prick scars.
“Do not slouch, boy.”
Cazador tries to straighten. His spine feels pulled taught already, ramrod straight and frozen, a startled deer under Vellioth’s gaze. He tries to stretch it further, towards the heavens he will never reach.
Vellioth does not seem satisfied.

Astarion’s grimace of pain softened with confusion. “He’s—that’s our new brother?”
“Soon enough. Come now boy, don’t pretend you’re not eager. Look at that handsome figure on him,” Lord Szarr tutted, gesturing at Tyrus. “Full of idyllic dreams; never left the nest. So easy to crush or cradle, I almost worry you won’t be able to focus when this one is around. You like the sweet boys best, after all.”

Summary
Refusing to accept Geralt's death, Jaskier jumps at the chance to fix it, even though it means trapping himself in a time loop. There are warnings, of course. Events happen as they happen. Time tends to resist alteration in the places where it matters. He will be trapped until he accepts the outcome. Jaskier ignores them all and pits his resolve against destiny itself, convinced his refusal to give up on Geralt will be enough.
It isn’t. Jaskier fails over and over and over again, destiny course correcting every single time. Determination isn't enough to change events, he comes to find.
But maybe love is enough to bend the details.
