“Didn’t he beat your ass?” Jay asked without tact, and she was taken aback for a moment.
“Beat my…”
“Ass. Butt. Tush. Hiney. Get the gist?”
“Yes, but… Voight?” Jay had given her an unimpressed stare at that particular question.
“Really?” he stared at her. “Of all the things Voight does, you think that beating your ass is the line he won’t cross?” It was an astute point.Or, Hailey and Voight talk after he tells her he's sending her to work with the FBI, where the lines are far more clear.
