Eddie will admit he wasn't as invested in the extra stuff that came with Chris' school life like PTA meetings, fundraising and "adult bonding" as he should be, as long as Chris did his homework and Eddie attended a recital or two he was fine, he was a firefighter, he was busy and he thought the school understood that seeing as they never called him out on his lack of participation but one flu taking out half the fire department makes Eddie realize that Buck's apparently the best damn PTA parent in existence.

“Tia Sophia said you’d want me to have it,” Chris says.
“Why’d she say that?”
“She said you gave it to her to hug when she missed abuelo, so she wouldn’t be sad anymore. She said you wouldn’t want me to be sad, either.”

Jee’s nose scrunches up in consideration. “Hmmm.” She counts out the gumdrops on her plate. “Okay, but take the red ones. I don’t really like those.” Maddie scoffs in amusement and Eddie smiles, receiving four red gumdrops in his hand.
“Wow, thank you! The cherry ones are my favorite.” He makes a big show of shoving them all in his mouth at once and can’t stop his face from twisting up at the flavor, exposing the lie immediately. They taste like cough syrup. Maddie and Jee burst into giggles, and despite the attack on his taste buds, Eddie breaks into a goofy smile too. “Mmm. Just what I wanted.”
Buck smiles to himself, tears springing up as he watches them from the living room. Eddie and his girls.

“Buck?” Eddie calls again, softly. He toes off his shoes and trudges up the stairs to the loft and his heart aches at the sight in front of him.
Buck is tucked under the blanket, hoodie over his head, a pillow hugged to his chest and he’s staring off into space like he’s not even really here. His phone is sitting on the bedside table where Eddie can assume that it’s been dead all day.
Eddie tentatively sits by him, right on the edge and places a hand on his back, over the sheets. Buck’s head turns to face him and Eddie’s able to get a better look at the man. His eyes are puffed like he’s been… crying?
“Eddie.” Buck’s voice is so small. So unlike him. Eddie’s never heard him like this before. He’s heard him loud and passionate. He’s heard him angry. He’s heard him when he’s in physical pain. But he’s never heard him like this.
Like a child.

Making a big show of huffing and puffing, Eddie lifts up his upper body to let Buck move, sending daggers at Buck with his half-closed eyes.
“Give me five minutes, princess.” Buck smiles as Eddie flops back down beside him.
“You are an evil man, Buckley.”
Buck shifts to his side to face his adorable, pouting boyfriend. “What’s going on with you lately?”
“What do you mean, baby?” Eddie asks softly, mirroring Buck’s posture.
“You seem to want to touch me all the time.”
"Are you complaining?”
“Never.” Buck splays his hand across Eddie’s waist. “Just wondering. I am supposed to be the clingy one in this relationship.”

Buck starts bulking up and becoming bigger. Eddie loves him even more for it.
