Jean cried an overwhelming amount when Sasha died, he never was good at goodbyes, and the thought always made him feel uncomfortable.

Summary
Carlos is probably the most unreliable narrator he knows. Which is a kind way of saying he's a liar.
It's a tendency, a defensive mechanism to keep others away from his more vulnerable side despite the years of trust they might share. Carlos always adds a small detail whenever he talks with his mother, changes events and places when he talks to the media and turns trauma into a joke when he's with friends. Most of the time he doesn't register he's doing it until he reaches the end.
He mostly lies to himself as well. He can pretend ex-friends were kind when they weren't and that he never embarrassed himself during Checo's birthday party. The best example is the story of how he came to hate Austin and how he had (no) choice on the matter.

Summary

To trust in the decision the three of them made three years ago. To trust in the insignias on their forehead protectors, now slashed across, their only momentos of home.
When Konoha succumbs under the combined rule of Danzo and the Akatsuki, Naruto, Shikamaru and Sasuke desert the village, embracing the danger and the freedom of being rogue nin. After three years, they know the journey must come to an end, that the inevitable awaits them.
Sooner or later, they must return to Konoha and set things straight once and for all. Of course, it’s easier said than done, especially when they find themselves in the centre of a mass rebellion, spearheading it.
