“Something brought you here, Vi,” she says firmly, pulling the chair to face her. “Call it what you will… fate… destiny…”
“A horse,” Vi interjects dryly, rolling her eyes.
Caitlyn continues, unfazed, “So, I’ve made the decision to trust you.”
“A horrible decision, really,” Vi mutters.
“But trust me when I tell you this,” Caitlyn snaps, tugging the hair tighter and pulling the chair forward. Now face-to-face with Vi, she leans in, her voice low and intense. “You could tear this tower apart brick by brick, but without my help, you will never find your precious satchel.”
Vi blinks, momentarily lost in the proximity, before clearing her throat. “So let me get this straight. I take you to see the lanterns, bring you back home, and you’ll give me back my satchel?” She tries to motion with her bound hands, eyebrows raised.
“I promise,” Caitlyn replies, her voice solid and sincere.
