“Okay, kid,” Jeralt said to Byleth, kneeling in front of her and just behind the line of objects. “Just pick something from the lineup.”
Byleth looked at the objects then back at her father. Her eyes glinted in the light, almost curious, as she gazed across the floor. For a moment, she just sat there and stared blankly.
Then, she slowly crawled forward.
It's a common tradition in many Asian cultures for parents to set a line of objects in front of their young children to see which one they will choose.
Or, one of the few times that Byleth ever made Jeralt cry.
